Bridal Shower

This has nothing to do with the house, but here are some pictures of the things I made for my soon to be sister-inlaws bridal shower. I will post pictures of the actual bridal shower after it happens.

The Living Room is Ready for Christmas

We painted the walls "Winter Gate" grey and have finally brought home our new couch that we purchased in August. The Christmas tree is up and dripping with silver and gold. " Make new friends and keep the old, one is silver and the others gold." Both new and vintage ornaments adorn our living room. Dad maybe you will recognize a few.

The Tree is Gone

This tree bothered me so bad! Everyone that came over always asked if I painted it, or they would say how cool it was. Liars! The Hall is also painted now in " " and a new hall sconce has been added. All the switch plates in the house will be replaced with black ones.

Oh! I cannot believe I almost forgot to post one of our biggest projects yet. The fake wood linoleum that was in the hall and kitchen is gone now. We sanded down the concrete floors and painted it a dark charcoal grey. We like it a lot. It looks really modern and adds alot of drama.

More Kitchen Redo

With the upper cabinets finished we moved right on to the lower cabinets. Again we started by sanding and painting the existing cabinets. This time we chose a cream color that compliments the dining room wall color. We also added custom made pull out drawers in all the cupboards to give us more storage and organization. The new doors were then crafted from MDF and beadboard, and stainless steel handles were added for a modern touch.

When the weather warms up we will be attempting to make our own counters from concrete and will replace the old sink with a huge white farm house sink from Ikea. After that project we will tile a backsplash out of 2x4 white tiles placed in a brick pattern. There is still tons to do, but we are getting there. Enjoy thesed few pictures.

Front Walk at Halloween

At the last minute I got itching to have something festive out front for halloween. I grabbed some brown lunch bags cut them in half and placed them down the walk with tea light candles inside. They lasted until the first big batch of "trick or treaters" trampled them. Red dressed up as a firehydrant this year too. The picture is minus the silver hat that came with the outfit. She would not take one step with the hat on.

Kitchen Redo

We were at first thinking we were going to gut the whole kitchen and start all over with new cabinets but decided we could salvage the main structure of the existing cabinets. So we then thought we would just buy new cabinet doors to replace the old 70's stock doors and hardware. But finally we decided to sand down the existing upper cabinets, lay a fresh coat of paint on them and leave them open.

Once we got sanding we realized just how many coats of paint had been applied to these old cabinets. There were two coats of white paint, a cream color paint, and then the heavy dark stain that was on the original cabinets. We stripped most everything to the wood and then worked from there.

We added beadboard to all the cabinet backs, filled in everything with wood filler, and added a molding to the bottom of the cabinets. Then we painted the cabinets in a dusty soft blue. Here are some before and after pictures.

Our First Home

We are so excited to have a place that is all our own. We just love our new condo and are excited to make it our home. Ryan, Red, and I have already tried out many of the amenities our little community has to offer. We have gone swimming at the pool and like having a place to sunbath. Red just loves the dog park. She can run wild off of her leash, and has already made several doggy friends on her trips there. Ryan and I have also already hit up the tennis courts, so we will have to see if that is something we pickup for fun.

It is weird to think we have already been in our new place for a month. We started ripping the place apart the week we moved in and are still ripping it apart now. We have made pretty decent progress though, but are still living out of boxes alot.

Our goal is to finish all of the down stairs and then move upstairs. I just cannot wait until there is one room all finished. I do not even care what room it is. All in good time I guess.
